Who we are

The Brewers Soup Collective is a Non-Profit Company (NPC) consisting of craft breweries in South Africa who are repurposing their brewery equipment to produce food for our most vulnerable communities.

What we do

Breweries nationwide were closed due to the national lockdown and as the government responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. A group of innovative brewers saw the potential to address the rapidly growing humanitarian hunger crisis. Our mash tuns, usually used to make beer, are the ideal vessels to make large quantities of soup.

Prior to the onslaught of COVID-19, our country had reached an unprecedented unemployment rate of 29%. With the national lockdown still in place, and probably so for the foreseeable future, this number is increasing rapidly. The lasting and lingering effect will be felt for many years with one devastating result – hunger.

By repurposing breweries to produce soup, brewers are creating a sustainable feeding solution, retaining jobs and preventing the South African craft brewery industry from folding.

Who we work with

The BSC works with government and local leaders as well as established NGO’s to identify and access the most vulnerable and at risk communities. The more breweries that join, the greater our ability to confront the growing hunger epidemic.

Please support this amazingly creative initiative.
